Company fuel card 2026: Petrom vs OMV vs MOL vs Rompetrol
For a small fleet of 3 vehicles consuming 600 L per month, picking the right fuel card is the difference between 0 and 100+ RON saved every month. We compare Romania's four major networks (Petrom, OMV, MOL, Rompetrol) on seven essential criteria: discount, monthly fee, network size, single invoice, mobile app, international coverage and B2B support. The right answer depends on the profile — an urban courier has different needs than an international hauler — and this article helps you choose correctly.

2. Petrom Fill&Go — broadest network
With 400+ stations in Romania, Petrom (part of OMV) has the most extensive network — useful for fleets travelling rural areas where other brands are absent. Typical discount is 0.05-0.12 RON/L, climbing to 0.18 RON/L for fleets above 10,000 L/month.
Recommended for: road haulage SRLs covering the whole country, regional courier agencies, companies with frequent rural travel.
Weakness: limited international coverage — for cross-border transport, MOL or OMV are stronger.
3. OMV Smart — premium and international
OMV runs about 150 stations in Romania (fewer than Petrom) but its DACH (Germany, Austria, Czech Republic) and CEE network is very solid — over 4,000 stations across Europe. Base discount is 0.07-0.15 RON/L plus extra reductions on car wash and shop purchases.
Recommended for: corporations operating internationally, hauliers driving West, managers with company cars on Bucharest-Vienna-Munich routes.
Weakness: smaller Romanian network forces pairing with a second card for rural areas.
4. MOL Group Card — built for CEE freight
MOL has 220 stations in Romania and a total network of 2,000+ across Central Europe (Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Croatia). Discount reaches 0.15 RON/L, and for freight MOL Bluecode offers weekly invoicing (easier on cash flow).
Recommended for: CEE hauliers (Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic), logistics firms, real-estate developers with western Romanian sites.
Weakness: Western European coverage limited; does not replace a pan-European DKV or UTA card.
5. Rompetrol Fill&Go — strong domestic pricing
Rompetrol (KMG International) operates around 280 stations with typical discounts of 0.05-0.12 RON/L. The main edge is a slightly lower base price than OMV/Petrom (by 0.03-0.07 RON/L) which, combined with the card discount, delivers a meaningful effective reduction.
Recommended for: regional Romania-focused firms, SMEs prioritizing low cost without complexity, taxi operators and car-rental businesses.
Weakness: selective international network (Bulgaria, Moldova, Georgia), but irrelevant for domestic transport.
6. Concrete savings calculation
Take a courier company with 5 vehicles, each consuming 250 L/month = 1,250 L total monthly. At the current diesel average of 8.40 RON/L (see today's diesel price):
- Without card: 1,250 × 8.40 = 10,500 RON/month;
- With 0.10 RON/L discount: 1,250 × 8.30 = 10,375 RON/month, saving 125 RON/month or 1,500 RON/year;
- With 0.15 RON/L discount: 1,250 × 8.25 = 10,312.50 RON/month, saving 187.50 RON/month or 2,250 RON/year.
Plus the administrative time saved — a single monthly invoice instead of 50-100 till receipts to gather.
7. Recommendations by profile
- Courier / urban delivery: Rompetrol Fill&Go (good price, compact but sufficient urban network);
- Domestic road transport: Petrom Fill&Go (largest network);
- CEE freight: MOL Group Card (best Central European coverage);
- International corporations: OMV Smart or OMV + MOL combination (DACH + CEE coverage);
- Small SRL 1-3 vehicles: any of the four; OMV Smart and MOL offer the best B2B apps.
