Frequently asked questions

How much have fuel prices risen since 1 July 2026?

After the OUG 19/2026 cap expired on 30 June 2026, estimates in the economic press pointed to an increase of roughly 0.30–0.50 lei per litre for diesel and about 0.20 lei per litre for petrol. The real prices, updated every 2 hours, are shown live above and on the diesel price and petrol price pages.

Why did petrol and diesel get more expensive?

Because the commercial markup cap introduced by OUG 19/2026 expired, and distributors' markups are no longer limited. On top of that came the return to full excise duties from 1 July.

Was the fuel price cap extended?

No. The bill that would have extended the cap until 30 November 2026 did not pass the final vote, having stalled in the budget-finance committee of the Chamber of Deputies. So the cap expired on 30 June 2026.
