Romanian Emergency Ordinance 19/2026 active: fuel commercial markups are capped at 2025 average levels during 1 April — 30 June 2026. This is why major networks (MOL, OMV, Lukoil, Socar, Gazprom) display a uniform nationwide price per brand. Real per-station variation remains at Rompetrol and independent stations. 5 tips to reduce vacation fuel consumption

  1. Correct tire pressure. Check before long trips. 0.3 bar low = +5% consumption.
  2. Reduce highway speed by 10 km/h. 110 vs 120 km/h cuts consumption 10-15%.
  3. Cruise control on straight roads. Modulates better than human foot — 3-5% savings.
  4. AC vs open windows. Below 80 km/h windows are fine. Above 100 km/h AC beats aerodynamic drag.
  5. Roof boxes only when needed. A loaded roof box adds 15-25% consumption.

Long-trip refueling strategy

  • Start with full tank from a city station — motorway stations are 0.15-0.30 RON/L pricier.
  • Mid-trip refuel at city exits, not on motorway. Use our live map.
  • International trips: top up BEFORE crossing into Hungary/Austria/Germany (more expensive). For Bulgaria: top up there for return (similar prices, no Giurgiu queue).
  • Avoid premium fuels on motorway. The 0.40-0.50 RON/L premium isn't justified for uniform highway driving.
